Both overeating and under-eating can lead to hormonal imbalance.
Hormones are chemical messengers created by the endocrine glands. Hormones control many functions in our body including our metabolism, reproduction system, and even our emotions. Even if one hormone is out of sync, it can knock off all other hormones. Various lifestyle patterns can lead to hormonal imbalances. One of them is over eating or eating too little than body’s requirement.
Consuming calories more than required has been scientifically proven to increase insulin levels and reduce insulin sensitivity in body, especially in overweight and obese people who are insulin resistant. Insulin is a hormone that regulates sugar levels in our body. Sustained increased levels of insulin or reduced insulin sensitivity can lead to type 2 diabetes.
On the other hand consuming calories less than body’s requirement have been shown to increase cortisol levels which is a stress hormone in the body. Stress hormone is known to promote weight gain when elevated.
Thus to conclude eating as per your own body calorie range can help you maintain hormonal balance and a healthy weight.
